Botulinum toxin

Effective wrinkle smoothing

Before the procedure

The consultation is usually immediately followed by the treatment itself

No examination is usually necessary before the procedure. In most cases, the consultation is combined with the treatment itself. During the consultation, you tell the dermatologist what is bothering you and what you want the treatment to achieve. Together, you will then determine the areas you want to rejuvenate and beautify with the treatment.

Depending on the area to be treated, the doctor will apply botulinum toxin or hyaluronic acid. Botulinum toxin is most commonly used to treat mimic wrinkles in the upper third of the face (on the forehead, above the bridge of the nose or the fans around the eyes), while hyaluronic acid is used primarily to treat sagging corners, nasolabial folds and fine lines above the upper lip. We often also apply it directly to the lip to add volume, and finally, we apply fillers under the eyes or use them for overall facial contouring. We very often combine botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid treatments.

What are the contraindications for both treatments

We do not perform botulinum toxin application on pregnant or breastfeeding women. However, we can apply hyaluronic acid. We also do not treat clients with acute skin conditions - with cold sores or eczema.

During the procedure

The procedure itself takes 15-30 minutes

You may find the application of both substances slightly uncomfortable. During the treatment, therefore, we continuously ice the area with cooling bags. In the case of hyaluronic acid application, you can also choose a filler that already contains lidocaine - a local anaesthetic. This makes the treatment more comfortable for you. The procedure is performed either with a thin needle or a cannula. The application usually takes around 15-30 minutes.

The results come very soon

You will see the effect of hyaluronic acid on yourself immediately. Hyaluronic acid binds water in the skin and helps regenerate the subcutaneous tissue. In addition, the effect of the treatment increases gradually. After the application of botulinum toxin, the result will be visible within 3-5 days and will also continue to increase over the next week. It reaches its maximum after about 14 days.

Minor accompanying discomforts disappear quickly

After the treatment, there may be slight redness, slight swelling or increased sensitivity in the treated area. Some people also experience a small bruise near the injection site. However, you do not need to worry about these minor side effects, they will disappear very soon.

After returning home

What are the contraindications for both treatments

  • Do not bend over or lie down for the first 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities and excessive temperatures - sauna, solarium and sunbathing - for the first 2 days.
  • Postpone your visit to the beautician for a week.

How to behave after botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid treatment?

For the first 6 hours, do not squeeze, massage or apply facial pressure to the treated area - especially if it is a nasolabial fold.
Cosmetic treatments, facial massages and dental visits are not recommended for a week.

Post-treatment follow-up is not necessary, complications do not occur

You do not need to see a doctor after botulinum toxin or hyaluronic acid treatment. In fact, complications are virtually non-existent. However, you will of course be given a business card for the treating doctor so that you can contact him or her if necessary. Very rarely, headaches, momentary weakness or flu-like symptoms may occur after botulinum toxin injection. After the hyaluronic acid has been applied, it is most important not to squeeze the treated area in any way to prevent the filler from shifting.
