Sleep medicine for healthy sleep without snoring

Sleep medicine is a specialized field of medicine focused on the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. At MEDICOM Clinic, doctors specialize in surgically eliminating snoring, bringing relief and much-needed quality sleep.

What causes snoring?

Snoring is caused by vibration of the soft tissues and structures in the upper airway during sleep, when the muscles and tissues in the throat area relax. This can lead to a restriction in the passage of exhaled air. This produces a characteristic sound. There are several factors that can contribute to snoring, including narrower airways and soft tissues in the throat area, being overweight or obese, body position while sleeping, use of alcohol or sedatives, and sleep apnea, a serious condition with repeated breathing stoppages during sleep. This chronic problem can have a negative impact on health, so it is important that sleep apnoea syndrome is diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

Surgical removal of snoring

The first step is a thorough consultation with your doctor, followed by sleep monitoring. At MEDICOM Clinic, we offer the option of sleep monitoring either overnight in our clinic or with a monitoring device provided for home monitoring.

The measured data is then used to evaluate the cause and solution of the sleep problems by septoplasty or upper floor resection.

Septoplasty - modification of the nasal septum

If the nasal septum is curved or deformed, it can restrict air passage and cause breathing problems. This is solved by septoplasty, a surgical procedure in which the surgeon uses a small incision to adjust the septum to the correct shape. The goal of septoplasty is to improve the patency of the nasal passages.

Uvulotomy - resection of the upper palate

The uvula is a part of the soft palate located at the back of the throat. It is here that vibrations occur during sleep that lead to snoring. During resection, part or even all of the uvula is removed, resulting in improved airflow during sleep.

"Soft palate surgery using laser is a quick, effective procedure with a short recovery time. Enjoy better quality sleep without snoring," Tomas Nedeliak, M.D., ENT and snoring surgery specialist
